While the posh Hindu localities of Ahmedabad have all luxurious civic facilities – beautiful roads, colourful street lights, Narmada Water, underground drainage, and of course Swachhta Abhiyan, the localities with Muslim population are deprived of even the basic amenities – no road, no street light, no drinking water, heaps of garbage everywhere. While the Constitution of India mandates the State not to discriminate its citizens on the basis of religion, the hard reality is evident in these photographs. Taking serious note this hard reality, the High Court has issued notice to the State and the Municipal Commissioner in response to my PIL.
